What To Expect

Let me de-mystify the art of painting! It can be very daunting when you first start out and choose to pick up a brush, or maybe you haven't painted since school? Whatever your reason to consider yourself a beginner, you can relax. Week 1: Materials, Mediums & Tools Week 2: Watercolour Techniques & Tips Week 3: Acrylic Painting Week 4: Imprimatura & Underpainting Week 5: Oil Painting on Canvas In the first week, Kelly will talk you through the basics to give you an understanding of the kit you need (and the kit you don't). Next time you visit an art shop - you'll know what you're looking for and understand the jobs of all the lotions and potions before you. In the following weeks we will look at different mediums: namely watercolour and acrylic, so you get a feel for the type of paint you enjoy working with, and the scope of their capabilities. In the final two weeks, building on the foundation above, we will explore Oil Painting in a little more depth. Starting with Imprimatura (don't worry I'll explain!), underpainting and finally colour mixing on your final layer. The goal of this course is to give you confidence and understanding. Confidence; to experiment and paint in a way that expresses your vision. Understanding; using your new knowledge of techniques, including tips & tricks to help elevate your work. Plus, you'll have fun doing it - I promise! Included in the course are all materials [paint, brushes, paper and final piece canvas] plus tea and coffee facilities within the studio. [Fancier coffees are available to buy from our neighbour - The Cowshed Café] Small class sizes of no more than 4 people.
